Wrapping the Children of the Gaza Envelope in Holistic Pulsing

Let’s harness the power of softness to help the children of the Gaza Envelope cope with trauma.

It All Began with Children Helping Children

Before the summer break, the students of Alon Elementary School in Herzliya decided to donate the money they raised during a school community day to provide Holistic Pulsing therapy for children in Kibbutz Holit. These children are suffering from post-trauma following the terrorist infiltration of their kibbutz on October 7, 2023.

The money raised was enough to fund therapy for ten children, and their treatments are currently underway. However, as more children registered for therapy, we discovered that the demand exceeded the available resources. So, we raised the missing funds and are now launching an additional group for nine more children from the Holit community. Demand for therapy has also started to grow in other communities.

From the very beginning of the war, Holistic Pulsing volunteers provided initial therapy to many evacuees from the Gaza Envelope in the hotels where they were staying, helping both children and adults. With your support, we can renew, continue, and expand these treatments. Our goal is to reach every child in the Gaza Envelope who seeks our help.

"Immediate Impact"

"I would like to share our experience with Holistic Pulsing therapy. On October 7th, terrorists infiltrated our home, shooting inside, and we were fortunate to survive. After evacuating to a hotel, we were introduced to Holistic Pulsing for the first time. Our 10-year-old daughter participated in several therapy sessions, and we immediately noticed the positive effects. Her body relaxed, her sleep improved, and we witnessed a significant reduction in signs of trauma. Thank you for the privilege of participating in this therapy, and we hope it reaches many more children."

"The Children Began to Breathe"

"My name is Ilana Sasson, and for the past 15 years, I have been a senior therapist in the Holistic Pulsing method... October 7, 2023, shook my life along with the rest of the nation, and I quickly went to volunteer and provide therapy for evacuees staying at Kibbutz Ein Gedi... Gradually, the loving, accepting, and supportive touch helped build trust and security, making the therapy more effective.

In addition to children clinging tightly to their parents, I noticed two other recurring phenomena: very shallow and quiet breathing... This week marked the fourth therapy session with a group of children, and for the first time, we addressed the issue of breathing. A significant number of them began breathing more deeply, with the help of placing hands on their bellies and observing if anything happened to the hands during inhalation and exhalation.

One of the children, who in previous sessions would quickly tense up from touch, allowed contact without any reaction of withdrawal. Moreover, she fell asleep and rested peacefully."

Project Management

The project is managed in conjunction with research and close consultation with a clinical psychologist through the Holistic Healthcare - a new age in Healthcare initiative. This initiative is operated by a public benefit corporation called Integrated Health Services.

A Bit About the Method

The therapy was developed by the late Dr. Tovi Browning (M.D., D.O.) and is based on the technique of pulsation —a gentle rocking of the body at a rhythm resembling the heartbeat of a fetus. This rhythm evokes deep feelings of safety and calm within the body, bringing the child back to the prenatal experience of security, where the nervous system repeatedly signals that everything is okay. This allows the healing process to occur naturally and soothingly.

The Holistic Pulsing method helps dissolve traumas stored in the body, release deep tensions, and restore an internal sense of security. The gentle rocking detoxifies the body, strengthens feelings of peace and connection, and promotes better sleep while alleviating emotional turmoil.

Therapist Testimony

"The Children Began to Breathe"

My name is Ilana Sasson, and for the past 15 years, I have been a senior therapist in the Holistic Pulsing method. During this time, I was also part of the teaching staff and facilitated workshops in the method.

October 7, 2023, shook my life, along with the rest of the nation, and I quickly volunteered to treat evacuees staying at Kibbutz Ein Gedi. At the Ein Gedi spa, only adults were initially allowed to receive treatments, but I understood that children needed therapy just as much. With the support of Roi Lotan, we found a way to include children, and I began treating them as well. At first, the children were extremely attached to their parents, but gradually, the loving, accepting, and supportive touch built trust and security, allowing for more effective therapy.

In addition to the strong attachment to their parents, I noticed two common phenomena among the children: very shallow and quiet breathing, often almost undetectable, and an intensification of behaviors that likely existed before. For example, a people-pleasing child became even more withdrawn and began to accumulate physical pains, primarily in the back.

When the opportunity arose to treat children from Kibbutz Holit at Revivim, I took it on, especially since I had already met some of them during my volunteer work in Ein Gedi.

This week marked the fourth therapy session with a group of children. For the first time, we addressed breathing, and many of them began to breathe more deeply. We used techniques such as placing hands on their bellies and observing any movement during inhalation and exhalation. One of the children, who in previous sessions would quickly tense up from touch, allowed contact without any reaction of withdrawal. Furthermore, she fell asleep and rested peacefully during part of the session.

With the older children, social difficulties surfaced, and they were provided tools to cope, reporting improvements. As a therapist, I see how the trauma they experienced often exacerbated patterns and behaviors. The therapeutic approach enables the beginning of change. I hope that for the older children, the awareness, and for the younger ones, the internalization of the idea that proper touch fosters calm, security, and trust, will strengthen their ability to cope with the difficult experiences they endured.
